Welcome to ‘dj the FX DM’

David (dj) Johnson, VES is a professional Dungeon Master, TTRPG author and Video Game professional. dj has been Playing Dungeons & Dragons since 1984. Is a professional DM, having run games at GenCon, D&D in a Castle, DaveCon, MomoCon, Arne Con and PAGE. He’s written 5 TTRPG Adventures, and is winding up to publish them soon via his new TTRPG company “One Headed Ettin”. dj is one of the organizers for the Philadelphia Area Gaming Expo (PAGE) and serves on the board of advisors for the charity arm of PAGE called “GAP” (Gamer Assistance Program).

The TTRPG Adventures dj has authored include the comedy satirical “The Curse of Macho Man Randy Strahd”, a Dragonlance setting heist trilogy of adventures called “The Last Dragon Eggs” Parts 1, 2 and 3. And dj has designed a 5th level of the famous “Caverns of Thracia” by Jennell Jaquays for her memorial adventure compilation.

His day job, is as the founder, CEO and creative director for Undertone FX. David has credits on many of the largest video game franchises in history, including 10 years of service at Infinity Ward as head of the FX department on the Call of Duty game. Other credits include the Halo, Star Wars, Diablo, Mortal Kombat, Starfield and Shadowrun franchises.

Accolades include 2 Visual Effects Society Awards in the video game category… making him on a short list of four people in the world with that distinction. He has also twice published as a co-author in the books “Introduction to Game Development” and “The VES Handbook of Visual Effects”.
